Are you regularly exporting horses from Europe to the United States? Then this update from the FAVV (Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain in Belgium) is important for you.
Effective immediately, a new mandatory supplemental document is required for horses traveling to the U.S. that have resided in more than one EU Member State within the last 60 days.
Without this document, the official health papers will not be signed by the government veterinarian – meaning the horse cannot be exported.
What does the document confirm?
- Where the horse has been stabled during the past 60 days
- That the horse is free from disease
- That the stable(s) where the horse stayed are also free from disease
Key requirements
- ✅ The document must be signed by a local veterinarian
- ✅ The original version must be handed over at the time of pickup, together with the passport
- ✅ The original must travel with the horse – copies are not accepted
- ✅ You need one signed document per location where the horse has stayed during the last 60 days
- ✅ The form comes with a new layout
Why does this matter?
Without the original, signed declaration(s), the official health certificate won’t be issued – and the horse won’t be allowed to travel. To avoid delays or denied shipments, it’s essential to prepare everything in advance.
